Park Güell in Barcelona from its beginnings
The park was named after the wealthy businessman Eusebi Güell, who was a great admirer of Gaudí’s works and who in the end was the main sponsor of the park.
At the beginning, the objective was to build a luxury residential complex in the area, but as time went by this initiative lost interest and it was decided to build the Park with a fairy tale atmosphere.
It was inaugurated in 1922 and since that year, the site has become one of the most iconic places in Barcelona. In fact, in 1984 UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site.

In total it has an extension of 17 hectares and the forms of nature were the source of inspiration. In it you can find different figures, geometric shapes, wavy shapes, columns that look like trees, animal figures, among many other works.
What distinguishes it most is that most of its surface is decorated with colorful mosaics made with colored ceramics. Gaudí used all his ingenuity and sought to take advantage of a 60-meter drop in the mountain to create something like a path to spiritual elevation.
