“Passion for Barcelona continues to be my work guide”. Paquita Vázquez

Paquita Vázquez is much more than a Barcelona guide. With Cristina Baigorri they have chatted about her beginnings in the sector, the day to day of the profession, what visitors are now looking for according to their respective nationalities, hidden places in the city and coexistence with other models of guide, among other topics.

With more than 30 years of experience in the sector, this professional has turned her love for the city and its history into a life vocation. With a degree in Tourism and an official licensed guide, Paquita has taken thousands of visitors to discover the essence of Barcelona, with personalized tours ranging from Gaudí’s architecture to the hidden secrets of the mountain of Montjuïc.

Your favorite places

When she wants to get lost in Barcelona, Paquita goes to the city’s museums but she also likes to stroll through the Ribera and Gothic neighborhoods. These places help her to relax, rest and connect with the essence of the city.

A guide for all tastes

In her company Always Barcelona, founded and directed by herself, she specializes in offering tailor-made experiences. Paquita is a guide who knows how to adapt to the wishes of her clients. In addition to this, she is able to communicate in five languages, which makes her an accessible option for tourists from all over the world.

A craft of love, but not always easy

Although for Paquita being a guide is a passion, it is not an easy job. The change in the way we travel and see a city has meant that guides must adapt to what is now in demand. In addition, Paquita told Cristina that the so-called free tours are sometimes the hook for other experiences and that they offer free visits without the necessary training. For her, this type of practice detracts from the value of the profession, which requires a solid university education and constant updating.

Dedication and knowledge as a work guide

It’s not just about touring the Sagrada Familia or Park Güell, but about understanding the cultural context and stories that form the backbone of the city. Their ability to tailor each visit to the preferences of their clients ensures that each experience is unique, whether it’s a couple looking for a romantic tour or a group of students exploring history and art.
