For more than 300,000 euros, the Barcelona City Council put the demolition of the Pedro IV cinema out to tender for the spring of 2023.
The old Pedro IV del Besòs cinema will be demolished by that time, after being closed for 22 years (since 2000).
The decision to demolish the building was confirmed by the city council last July. As a result, the municipal company Bimsa put the demolition works out to tender.
Companies interested in applying and submitting their financial proposals may do so until September 19.
The demolition period, i.e. the contract execution time, will be four months.
Pedro IV movie theater to be demolished: decision taken
Although the cinema will cease to exist, it will be reborn as an essential facility for the neighborhood of El Besòs and Maresme.
There are plans to expand the Primary Care Center in this space, as well as to build a library and an auditorium.
The new building will have six floors thanks to the agreement reached between the Generalitat and the Barcelona City Council.
The cost of the work on the new building is estimated at around 15 million euros. Of this figure, Barcelona will pay almost 10 million and the Govern will pay the rest.
Although it was expected that demolition and new construction would have started years ago, everything was delayed.
In fact, the cinema should have already disappeared during the first months of 2022.
Since this was not the case, the schedule had to be adjusted and demolition will most likely not take place until the spring of 2023.
An award for the neighborhood
The conversion of the old cinema into a facility is seen as a historical vindication of the city’s commitment to the neighborhood.
There have been too many delays and the neighborhood deserves compensation for the delays and inconvenience.
In fact, Besòs i el Maresme does not have a decent library and its young people have no place to study or consult books.
The new library aims to be a suitable space for students of the Universitat Politècnica to go to the Besòs and Maresme neighborhood to study.
The enclosure will occupy the first three floors of the building, as well as part of the basement.
On the first floor of the building, a space will be set up to carry out various cultural and other activities and to free up space.
There will also be an auditorium or multipurpose room in the basement of the building.
The construction of the new facility will be carried out simultaneously with the implementation of a comprehensive improvement plan in Besòs and Maresme.
The plan was approved by the Barcelona City Council, which foresees an investment of 100 million euros over four terms.
