With a total investment of 166 million euros, of which Barcelona City Council earmarked 50 million, it will be possible to accelerate the city’s energy transition with the installation of photovoltaic panels.
The plan, which will be developed in conjunction with private collaboration, seeks to place these renewable energy panels. The idea is that it will be on the roofs of industries and SMEs operating in Barcelona and in single-family houses.
However, everything also depends on the acceptance and willingness on the part of the homeowners’ communities.
In this order of ideas, the City Council assumes 30% of the investment and the private companies the remaining 70%.
All through the mechanism “Sustainable Energy Barcelona”, MESBarcelona, which seeks to install free photovoltaic panels on buildings in the city.
A case example of implementing this type of project is the city of Sant Cugat. There, around 35% of the roofs are equipped with photovoltaic panels. The advantage is that Sant Cugat has a large park of single-family houses.
Photovoltaic panels in Barcelona
However, according to specialized companies, renewable energy generation from photovoltaic panels installed on rooftops is still not highly valued in Spain.
According to the company Holaluz, there are currently some ten million roofs in the country with panels. Of these, eight are single-family or semi-detached houses and the other two million are in multi-dwelling buildings.
Likewise, this technology allows the electricity bill to be reduced by up to 60%.
