The giant sculpture “Silent Music IV”, weighing more than 200 kilos and three meters high, landed at La Pedrera in Barcelona, particularly on the roof of the Gaudi building.
The piece is part of the exhibition “Poesía del Silencio” (Poetry of Silence), which was installed on this iconic rooftop as a tribute to the Barcelona sculptor Jaume Plensa.
“Silent Music IV” is one of the large-format works that will be on view in the exhibition at La Pedrera from March 31 through the end of July 2023.
The giant sculpture will be one of eight large-format pieces that will be located in different areas of La Pedrera. They will be in the attic, the facade, gulfs or patios. They will be integrated into the architectural beauty of Gaudí’s building.
The exhibition in this emblematic place will be the best complement to an exhibition focused on the influence that language, literature and the alphabet have had on the work of the Catalan sculptor.
For his part, Plensa has also just premiered his version of “Macbeth” at the Liceo de Barcelona.
The sculpture “Silent Music IV”.
PIensa himself supervised the transfer of the mega sculpture by crane to the terrace of La Pedrera.
It is a human silhouette formed by musical notes and treble clefs that will keep company to Gaudi’s chimneys – warriors.
The move took place in the morning hours, for which Provenza Street between Pau Claris and Paseo de Gracia had to be temporarily closed.
In the smaller spaces you will be able to see the small format pieces made in the nineties and although they are less known than the colossal heads and faces, they will show Jaume Plensa’s deep relationship with poetry, desire, family, music, family.
The installation of the first piece of the large-format exhibition at La Pedrera is the beginning of the encounter between two great works by two of the most representative artists in the history of Catalonia.
The major exhibition, “Jaume Plensa. Poesia del silenci”, will be present in the Gaudí building with large format works by the artist that will be distributed throughout the building.
The exhibition can be visited at La Pedrera from March 31 until July 23, 2023.
On the roof there is also another sculpture by Plensa. It is “Day-Night*” of 400 kilos of weight and a height of 8 meters, a tribute to the Valencian poet Vicent Andrés Estellés.
The exhibition shows the common thread that links the Catalan sculptor with literature and poetry and other of his recurring themes such as silence, desire, dreams, music and family.
