Pop Air will be in Barcelona until 15/09

The exhibition “Pop Air”, organized by the Balloon Museum, is the first exhibition of inflatable art to arrive in Barcelona. The exhibition has been available to the public at the Victoria Eugenia Palace, located in Montjuïc, from May until September 15. This exhibition brings together 17 outstanding works by international artists, offering a unique, linear journey. The experience promises visitors an immersion into a dreamlike and sensory journey with unexpected forms that can be touched and felt.

Pop Air presents a diverse selection of artists who stand out as international representatives of this innovative art movement. Among them are notable figures such as Eness, known for his works that combine technology and art; Plastique Fantastique, who use inflatable structures to explore urban spaces; and Karina Smigla-Bobinski, famous for her kinetic sculptures. Also part of this exhibition are Cyril Lancelin, Hyperstudio, and Pepper’s Ghost, each bringing their unique vision.

The show also includes collaborations with Pneuhaus & Bike Powered Events, Motorefisico, and Quiet Ensemble, who specialize in multi-sensory experiences. Ultravioletto and Max Streicher bring their distinctive approach to inflatable art, while Rub Kandy and Filthy Luker play with elements of pop culture and humor in their creations. Lindsay Glatz along with Curious Form, and Stefano Rossetti complete the list of artists, offering proposals that challenge the limits of creativity and interaction with the public.

Pop Air in Barcelona

Among the most notable installations at Pop Air is “Airship Orchestra” by Eness. It is a work that allows visitors to interact with illuminated inflatable sculptures that create an atmosphere of serenity and contemplation. Another piece, “Cloud Swing” by Lindsay Glatz and Curious Form, invites visitors to swing on hanging inflatable cloud swings, encouraging a playful interaction with the art.

The exhibition also includes “Dodecalis” by the Architects of Air collective, a sensory labyrinth that uses the geometry of a dodecahedron to disorient and envelop viewers in illuminated tunnels, creating an immersive experience that challenges perception. This interactive approach seeks to actively engage the public, transforming viewers into active participants within the works.

“Pop Air” stands out not only for its physical works, but also for its ability to evoke emotions and memories, transporting visitors to a state of nostalgia and fantasy. This type of art defies traditional conventions, using ephemeral materials such as air to explore new creative dimensions and redefine the exhibition space.

In short, the “Pop Air” exhibition at the Victoria Eugenia Palace promises to be a unique experience, combining art, interaction and play. This exhibition offers an opportunity to explore the potential of inflatable art and its ability to transform the environment and the viewer’s perception, setting a new standard for contemporary exhibitions in Barcelona.
