If you don’t like frying eggs, now in Mercadona for less than 2 euros you will have the solution. This is precooked fried eggs, an invention where the eggs are just cooked in the microwave in just 30 seconds.
And the invention came about as a result of comments from people who said: “I don’t even know how to make a fried egg”. If you are one of them, you can leave aside the frying pan to fry them because in this supermarket chain you can already get them.
The idea of pre-cooked fried eggs
The idea is the work of Javier Yzuel, a Spaniard born in a small town in Huesca, creator of these eggs in 2014, and of the method to refrigerate them.
When he successfully completed the method of cooking fried eggs and refrigerating or freezing them, he initially patented his invention in Spain, Europe and the United States.
He then sold the idea to Burger King, which launched a burger using these eggs in 2016.
However, the product was not as well received as expected and the company that created it at the time did not prosper.
The advantage was that it had previously sold the patent to Angulas Aguinaga (La Gula del Norte), which currently produces them for Mercadona.
Yzuel went through the ins and outs of creating and patenting them until Mercadona began selling them in 2022.
And it must have been complex to get this far, because there is more science behind this fried egg than you can imagine.
The container in which the eggs are packed has a double layer of plastic because when testing it, people put their finger in the yolk and burst it.
It is true that it implies a higher consumption of plastic, but the idea is to use new lines of biodegradable fiber that are about to be approved for the packaging.
It is really an invention, since with only 30 seconds in the microwave, you can enjoy two eggs at the perfect point to dip the bread in its yolk.
Precooked fried eggs at Mercadona
The creator of the packaged fried eggs says that as a result of its sale in Mercadona, he has been contacted by people from various parts of the world interested in the product. And he says the idea is to take it to other markets.
For now, the indivisible pack of two eggs is available in some Mercadona supermarkets for 1.80 euros.
The company indicates that they are testing the product in some stores, in order to analyze whether it can be distributed in all the chain’s supermarkets.
In this way, the article quickly went viral in the networks, as it is a totally innovative product.
What do you think? Would you buy these precooked eggs?
