In the heart of Barcelona, the Festa Major de Gràcia has once again captivated locals and visitors with its traditional street decoration contest. In this 2023 edition, Progrés Street is the undisputed winner, transporting everyone to a fantasy world inspired by the Disney and Pixar movie “Bugs”.
Under the name “Formigres”, the neighbors of the street have created a magical and captivating atmosphere that has left everyone in awe.
The creativity and joint efforts of the Progrés residents have resulted in an impressive show. Upon entering this winning street, visitors are greeted by a path of clover and leaves that transports them to a lively anthill.
Here, the scene comes to life with mischievous grasshoppers threatening to take over the precious seeds collected by the ants.
But the magic doesn’t stop there: a representation of the iconic city from the film emerges, and the endearing Heimlich caterpillar character takes center stage.
This year’s runner-up is Mozart Street and its charming creation “Mozartland”. Inspired by the famous tale of Alice in Wonderland, this street transports visitors to a dream world full of emotions and extravagant characters and unforgettable recognition.

Plaça Rovira i Trias completes the podium with its striking presentation “Alis volat propiis”, which pays tribute to butterflies in their quest for freedom. The visual representation of these creatures escaping from a cage into a world of autonomy and color is a moving testimony to the creativity and passion of the people of Gràcia.
This year, a total of 23 streets and squares participated in the contest, each bringing their own unique vision and energy to the festivities.
From Verdi Street with its Pied Piper of Hamelin theme to the Poble Gitano square that illustrates Ausiàs March’s poem “Veles e vents”, the streets of Gràcia have become a captivating and lively backdrop.
The awards ceremony was an event full of emotion and camaraderie that took place in the Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia. However, as in any event, there were also moments of surprise and debate.
Verdi Street, which took first place last year, came in fourth place this year with its interpretation of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
The Festa Major de Gràcia is not only a showcase of creativity and artistic skills, but also a reflection of the vibrant and united community that brings this celebration to life.
