Prohibitions in Barcelona's Parc de Collserola due to fire risk

A recent communiqué issued by the Parc de Collserola in Barcelona, informs about the preventive measures that have been adopted in the park due to the high risk of forest fires.

These measures seek to protect not only the natural environment, but also visitors and surrounding communities.

And it’s all because we are in a time of extreme heat in the midst of summer and drought. Therefore, proper management and caution become crucial elements to safeguard one of Barcelona’s most precious natural treasures: the Parc de Collserola.

One of the most important restrictions is the prohibition of motorized traffic on all roads open to vehicular traffic, except for residents and authorized services.

This measure seeks to reduce possible ignition sources and minimize the risk of fire. The park has decided to close the lookout points and parking lots not related to restoration during this period of alert and high temperatures.

In addition, all authorized activities in the park have been suspended due to the high risk of wildfire. This includes educational and sports activities that would normally take place in the park’s natural environment.

Those activities that are of the route or sport route type, and that are carried out in the natural environment or have equivalent conditions, must be moved and carried out in inhabited nuclei or towns. If this is not possible, it is recommended to return to the point of origin.

Preventive measures against the risk of fire in Parc de Collserola

Preventive measures have also been extended to viewpoints and parking areas not related to the restoration. It is emphasized that these locations should be avoided during the period of high fire risk.

Concern about the dryness of the forest and the fragility of the natural environment is evident. Parc de Collserola is located in a region that has experienced high temperatures and lack of rainfall, which increases susceptibility to fires.

Emergency teams, in collaboration with the police and rural agents, are working to ensure compliance with preventive measures and to keep visitors and nature safe from potential disasters.

The Generalitat has announced a reinforcement of the active surveillance system in the park. Maintenance personnel will be in charge of sanctioning those who do not comply with the established prohibitions.

The community is urged to be aware of the situation and to actively collaborate in protecting the park. In the event of witnessing a fire, it is recommended to call 112, the emergency hotline, to ensure a quick and effective response.
