Rosalía will close today the festival of La Mercè with the Pyromusical

Rosalía will be the star of the closing of La Mercè, the most important festival in Barcelona. The acclaimed Catalan singer-songwriter has been commissioned to design the music for the Piromusical show, an event that fuses fireworks and music. Thus, the artist will mark the finale of the celebration. Xavier Marcé, Barcelona’s Councilor for Culture, confirmed that the singer, born in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, has decided to participate on this occasion without charging for her work, considering it a gift to her city and its inhabitants.

The musical content that will accompany the fireworks is still being kept secret. Marcé pointed out that Rosalía has had total freedom to choose the songs that will be played during the show. In this way, the artist has become the musical programmer of the Piromusical de La Mercè, an event that every year attracts thousands of people to the Avenida de María Cristina, where this impressive show takes place.

The Barcelona City Council was in charge of announcing the singer’s participation, explaining that the show will be composed of Rosalía’s favorite songs. The Catalan singer has gained worldwide recognition with her unique style, combining flamenco, pop and urban rhythms.

Rosalía’s Piromusical: Explosive closure

PyromusicalThe Piromusical is one of the most anticipated moments of La Mercè. This year, the show of lights, music and fireworks promises to be even more special, thanks to the participation of Rosalía. Starting at 10 p.m., the skies over Barcelona will be illuminated from the famous Montjuic fountain, while the music selected by the artist accompanies the pyrotechnics. The show will take place on Avinguda de Maria Cristina and will be the perfect farewell to one of the most expansive and innovative editions of La Mercè in recent years.

The fireworks show will be performed by Pirotécnica Igual, a company with more than 120 years of experience in this type of events. The company has been behind some of the most emblematic shows in the world, such as the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 and Athens in 2004. Their collaboration ensures that the Piromusical is a first-class show, loaded with stunning visual effects.

In previous editions, the Piromusical has paid tribute to various musical themes. For example, in 2023, it celebrated 30 years of the Sónar festival, with a selection of electronic music that included songs by Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, New Order, C Tangana, Bad Gyal and Björk, among others. This year, without a doubt, Rosalía’s personal touch will be a highlight of the festival.

La Mercè: A diverse and open celebration

This year’s Mercè, which began on September 20, was one of the most dynamic and varied, with a total of 130 concerts, 54 popular culture performances and 80 street arts shows. The city of Casablanca was a special guest, and the programming stood out for its focus on integration, young talent and gender equality, with strong support for female creation.

Among the novelties of this edition, the incorporation of the Trinitat Park as a new venue for events, and the premiere of the renovated Port Olímpic, which hosted the Cultural Regatta linked to the America’s Cup, stand out. The opening speech was given by the illustrator, painter and sculptor Carme Solé Vendrell, who read it in the Saló de Cent, kicking off the festivities.

Security during the festival

To ensure security during the days of celebration, the Barcelona City Council deployed a device composed of 5,000 agents of the Guardia Urbana and the Mossos d’Esquadra. Albert Batlle, deputy mayor for Safety and Prevention, said that the main objective of the operation was to ensure that the festivities were held safely and that the popular and civic character of La Mercè was maintained. He also mentioned that random controls were implemented in the areas with the highest concentration of people.

With a festive atmosphere, safe and full of surprises, this year’s edition of La Mercè will close with a Piromusical that promises to be unforgettable, thanks to the creativity and talent of one of Barcelona’s most beloved artists, Rosalía.
