The change of winter time in the city is approaching, which traditionally takes place on the last Sunday of October. There is just over a month left to advance the time to Daylight Saving Time 2022.
This year it will be on the night of Saturday, October 29 to Sunday, October 30, when the clocks should be moved forward one hour to enter winter time.
Thus, on October 30, the day will have 25 hours instead of 24. In this way, winter will be officially welcomed.
This is the second time change during the year, after the daylight saving time change in March.
The new winter timetable in Barcelona
The change, which is traditionally made every year, aims to move the clocks forward one hour in order to take advantage of the hours of natural light for longer. Incidentally, it also provides incentives for energy savings. It should be remembered that ehis change has been unified throughout Europe for more than 40 years.
In 1980, European Union legislation designated the last Sunday in October and the last Sunday in March as the days on which the time is set back and set forward.
Although the times of the year when these time changes are made usually coincide, the day may vary to be during a weekend. This is in order to minimize the impact on people’s work and social activities.
The debate
However, this method of time shifting over the years has not been well received in Spain.
According to a study by the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas, CIS, 60% of Spaniards would like to end the time change and 70% of them would keep daylight saving time.
But despite negotiations to abolish it in Spain, the start and end of daylight saving time will remain the same until 2026.
In 2017, the Official State Gazette, BOE, published all the official dates on which the time change must be made until 2026.
- March 27, 2022 (summer time) and October 30, 2022 (winter time).
- March 26, 2023 (summer time) and October 29, 2023 (winter time).
- March 31, 2024 (summer time) and October 27, 2024 (winter time).
- March 30, 2025 (summer time) and October 26, 2025 (winter time).
- March 29, 2026 (summer time) and October 25, 2026 (winter time).
The time change may have some health effects, such as dizziness, insomnia, irritability or drowsiness, particularly in the elderly and children.
The best thing to do is to adapt gradually and allow the body to adjust its biological clock to winter.
