Although it is not yet clear what the summer will bring in the midst of this pandemic, what is slowly making its way is the possibility of going out to the beach to do sports individually. Since the second week of May, some of Barcelona’s beaches have been open to the public for physical activity.
This was confirmed by the Councilor for Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition of Barcelona and clarified that each beach in the city will have two access points only and can only be entered in the morning hours between 6:00 and 10:00 h., exclusive time for sports activities.
What the councilor did clarify is that group sports activities will still not be allowed and that although there will be no lifeguard service, swimming will be allowed as long as the social distance is maintained. Recreational bathing and sand play are not yet allowed.
In addition to the opening of some beaches, the public is also expected to enter some parks in the Montjuïc area.
What you can do on Barcelona’s beaches open to the public
Beaches have started to open from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the morning. The reactivation of individual water sports, running and walking has been achieved. They were enabled thanks to the implementation of the first measures for the deconfinement of citizens.
However, there is no access to the sandy areas, to the children’s playground, to bathe during the rest of the day or to enter the beach sports areas (volleyball nets or soccer goals). As there are no lifeguards, athletes have been asked to exercise extreme caution and in case of emergency to call 112.
From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., an access for professional and federated surfers was enabled. They can enter to train by showing their license. What you still can’t do is walk on the beach or lie in the sun.
The beaches have been opened under these measures and the authorities have asked the population to be prudent in their use, avoiding crowds. Barcelona’s beaches are gradually opening up.
The beaches of Sitges and Vilanova were also opened
Although they have done so with some restrictions, the nearby beaches of Sitges and Vilanova have been open to the public since the beginning of May, although with restrictions. There is already access to the inhabitants of these municipalities as part of the progressive start of de-escalation.
Like the other beaches, enjoyment is not free. He is limited to some physical activity but with social distancing. Sunbathing, events, picnics or group meetings are also not allowed.
While this is healthy news, remember to continue to comply with protection protocols.
