The 28th edition of the LGBTI-themed festival, Fire!!!, the oldest festival of its kind in Spain, is coming to Barcelona.
The Fire Festival! will be carried out until June 18, 20233.
It will present around 61 films, including 30 feature films, 8 documentaries and 23 short films.
One of the highlights of this edition is the presence of renowned figures of the global LGBTI film scene, who will share their most recent works with the public and establish a direct dialogue.
The screening of “Eismayer” at the French Institute opened the festival. A film directed by David Wagner that addresses the issue of the stereotypical image of men.
“Eismayer,” an Austrian film based on a true story, explores how sexual orientation is automatically associated with certain social roles.
The film tells the story of Second Lieutenant Eismayer, a feared instructor and considered a model of masculinity in the Austrian army, who falls in love with a young openly gay soldier, thus challenging his world and its stereotypical view.
Guests at the LGBTI-themed festival
Guests include Peter McDowell, director of “Jimmy in Saigon”, Alejandro Marín, director of “Te estoy amando locamente”.
Also Alba Cros and Nora Haddad, directors of the documentary “Alteritats”, Ruth Caudeli, who will present “Petit mal”, and Daniel Sánchez López, director of the short film “Catorce”, among others.
This interaction between the audience and the protagonists of the projected works allows a mutual enrichment and an approach to the creative vision of these talented artists.
In addition, the Fire! will include the screening of a recovered copy of “Me siento extraño”, a classic 1977 lesbian film starring Bárbara Rey and Rocío Dúrcal.
This film, considered an icon of Spanish Transition cinema, has become a cult film, especially among the younger generations.
