For various reasons, Barcelona has lost around 100 cinemas in the last 20 years, and since 2010, 18% of its cinemas have disappeared. This allows us to conclude that the city’s cinematographic heritage is in latent danger of being lost for good -or at least most of it- and that you can’t miss the most beautiful cinemas in Barcelona.

This is why we believe it is interesting to give the opportunity to those who are still fighting to stay on their feet in this sector. Next, we want to tell you which are those movie theaters where you can enjoy a good movie in a room full of history, it’s time for you to know them and be part of it!

1. Palau Maldà, the center of the city’s culture (Carrer del Pi, 5)

This cinema is one of those jewels impossible to ignore, it can be said that it is the protagonist of the culture of the center of Barcelona. It is located inside what used to be the palace of Baró de Maldà, that is, what is now Galeries Maldà or Camdem Friki.

In this space you will be transported to another era, as it is a cinema that has only one theater, and where only 200 people can enjoy its independent and alternative programming.

And just as its infrastructure is from another era, so are its prices, to the good fortune of its visitors. You can do movie marathons for a price of 5,5€ on weekdays and 7,5€ on weekends, so this is the perfect opportunity to save money and have fun for an incredible price.

2. Comedia, an imposing cinema and one of the most beautiful in Barcelona (Passeig de Gràcia, 13).

The Comedia is a great cinema, very different in size from the Maldà, but very similar in history. It is located on the corner of Paseo de Gracia and Gran Via in a large building that attracts the attention of all who walk by its front.

It has several commercial movie theaters, but the attraction is that no matter the day or time, El Comedia always costs 5 euros.

Zumzeig, a non-profit movie theater (Carrer de Bèjar, 53).

Zumzeig, or zumzeig in Catalan, describes very well what this cinema is. A low but powerful and sustained sound of alternative cinema. It is basically a space in which the love for the seventh art is vindicated. But beyond that, the interesting thing is that this is a cooperative cinema in the cooperative neighborhood of Sants. And yes, as you might guess, this cinema operates on a non-profit basis and the profits are passed directly to the cinema itself.
