From October 12 to 16, 2022 the 60th edition of the Barcelona Boat Show returns to Barcelona. The international trade fair par excellence, will bring together exhibitors and more than 700 boats in the facilities of the Port of Barcelona.
The three docks of Barcelona’s Port Vell (Fusta, Espanya and Marina Port Vell) will become the stages for the event.
This year it returns to the Catalan capital with 40% more surface area and 20% more exhibitors.
It will also be the first window open to the public and the best scenario for the public dissemination of the actions of the Barcelona Nautical Capital Foundation, FBCN, aimed at making the America’s Cup Sailing 2024 competition in Barcelona a resounding success.
Boat Show: trade fair meeting
The event will bring together the entire sailing community, making it an event of maximum impact for the organizers of the America’s Cup.
“The America’s Cup is comparable to the Olympic Games,” said Luis Conde, president of the Boat Show. With this great motivation, the America’s Cup of Sailing will strengthen the realization of the Boat Show.
This year’s exhibition will have 21,000 square meters of floor space, 221 exhibitors and more than 700 boats. Of these, 182 will be on the water, including 28 catamarans and 14 candidates to win the title of the best European boat of the year.
In this way, the Boat Show will be concentrated in the Fusta dock, the Innovation Dock space. There, a group of startups will show the most innovative proposals in the field of digitalization and nautical technology based on respect for the environment.
A variety of electric, hydrogen and hybrid boats will be on display.
This dock will also concentrate the offer of sailing boats, as well as a selection of equipment, nautical services and accessories on land that will shape the Sea Boulevard area.
Meanwhile, in Marina Port Vell, a space occupied for the first time by the event, along with the Moll d’Espanya, there will be a large floating exhibition of motor yachts and catamarans.
The Boat Show also created for this edition the “VIP Buyers” program, the most commercial aspect of the event. Its objective is to attract the visit of more than 300 national and international buyers interested in purchasing boats over 15 meters in length.
Market performance
However, this year’s fair is taking place in the midst of an international situation with many uncertainties. The sector, after two years of pandemic, has had a somewhat sustained and stable growth.
In this regard, from January to August this year, a total of 4,925 recreational boats were registered in Spain compared to 5,943 registered during the same period in 2021. This represents a 17% decrease.
