The cycle of activities in the metropolitan parks: an initiative to discover urban nature

A different kind of weekend

This year, the ambitious cicle d’activitats als parcs, platges i rius metropolitans lands in its 20th edition with a catalog full of surprises for those looking for a different weekend plan. Imagine starting a day in a natural environment, surrounded by green urban landscapes, learning with activities that combine leisure with environmental awareness. This is how this cycle is presented, which, together with the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona, has designed 57 recreational-educational proposals. From January to November, weekends are transformed into an opportunity to learn and enjoy the outdoors.

activities in the parks

The opening of the cycle promises a memorable day at the Jardí Botànic de Barcelona, with events for the whole family. From free to guided tours, attendees will be able to explore the botanical wonders of the city. In addition, the little ones (and why not, the grown-ups too) will be able to participate in the Jugatecambiental, a self-guided activity of clues that is sure to leave everyone wanting more.

The objectives behind each activity

Behind each of these proposals there is a clear objective: to raise awareness and connect citizens with urban nature. At a time when contact with nature seems increasingly distant, these activities bring the inhabitants of the metropolis closer to spaces that, although close, often go unnoticed.

The activities not only aim to teach about local biodiversity, but also to promote mobility. By encouraging people to discover these spaces, they are invited to get away from their daily routine and explore corners of their region that they might not know. And the fact is that, in order to care for and value, you first have to know.

Fun for everyone

The cycle proposes activities ranging from theatrical events to artistic workshops. Here, arts such as photography or engraving become ways to approach science and the environment. But there is also space for the practical, such as showing how to take a walk with your pet while respecting the environment.

The cicle d’activitats wants to involve everyone, from the youngest to the adults, offering activities to suit different interests. From observing butterflies to participating in biodiversity censuses, such as the Metropolitan Bioblitz, which will take place simultaneously in numerous parks in the region, variety will never be a problem.

Fostering citizen science

Another of the cycle’s commitments is citizen science, where people become the protagonists. The activities in this area seek, above all, to awaken the spirit of exploration that we all carry within us. Each participant has the opportunity to contribute with observations that increase our knowledge of local biodiversity.

Events such as the “dia de les papallones” or the biosnorkeling sessions on the metropolitan beaches are examples of this. Likewise, activities such as the renaturalization of natural spaces help people to understand the positive impact that their participation has on their environment.

The importance of local and natural

In addition, the role of natural areas as biological corridors is especially emphasized. Many of the activities focus on showing how these areas are not only important in their own right, but also act as bridges that facilitate the connection between different ecosystems.

Through guided tours and activities with experts, participants can understand the crucial role played by places such as the Serralada de Marina and the Parc Natural de la Serra de Collserola.

Participating, a smart decision

If one thing is clear, it is that during these months there will be no shortage of offerings for anyone who wants to enjoy a deeper connection with the nature that surrounds them. All activities are free of charge, although there are limited spaces, so prior registration is recommended. It is also possible to follow all the news of the cycle through social networks or by subscribing to newsletters.

This cycle offers the opportunity to rediscover and value nearby natural spaces, while fostering a sense of shared responsibility towards them. It is not just about participating in an activity, but getting involved in a movement that seeks to positively transform the relationship between people and their natural environment.
