Barcelona is getting ready to experience one of the most outstanding sporting events of the year: the 34th edition of the eDreams Half Marathon Barcelona by Brooks, which will be held on February 11, 2024.
This year, the event has reached an impressive milestone of over 28,000 participants, consolidating its position as the largest half marathon in Spain and the second largest in Europe.
A historic achievement in participation in the eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon
The news that more than 28,000 runners will take part in the eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon by Brooks 2024 has generated great expectation and enthusiasm among running enthusiasts.
This record participation is a testament to the growing interest in athletics and fitness, as well as the prestige this event has gained over the years.
What makes this edition even more special is the outstanding international presence and the significant increase in female participation. Some 40% of the participants come from different parts of the world, representing a total of 98 nationalities.
In addition, the eDreams Half Marathon Barcelona by Brooks 2024 sets a new record for female participation, with 35% of women registered and an impressive total of 9,800 runners.
Route changes and a new spirit of solidarity
To guarantee a better service and to manage the high participation, the organization has decided to move the start of the race to Passeig Picasso, keeping the finish line at Paseig Pujades.
This change in the route not only allows for a more efficient channeling of the tide of runners, but also adds a new element to the challenge by making the race semi-circular.
In a laudable gesture, Zurich, one of the sponsors, will donate 1 euro for each runner who crosses the finish line. The total amount raised will be donated to the Guttmann Institute, an initiative that adds a solidarity and social component to this exciting sporting event.
Elite line-up: Kenyans stand out in both categories
The eDreams Half Marathon Barcelona by Brooks 2024 presents a top-level elite line-up, headed by outstanding athletes in both the men’s and women’s categories. In the men’s category, Kenyan athlete Kibiwott Kandie, with the second best half marathon time in the world (57 minutes and 32 seconds), is the favorite to win.
On the other hand, in the women’s category, the world marathon champion, Ruth Chepngetich, also from Kenya, is the main contender to beat the record of the race, which currently stands at 1 hour, 4 minutes and 37 seconds.
The presence of these world-class athletes promises exciting competition and the possibility of setting new records. Whether you are a participant, runner or spectator, you will be able to witness one of the most important competitions that make history.
