The Fira Mercat de Mercats returns to Barcelona with quality gastronomy and sustainability.

The Fira Mercat de Mercats returns to Plaça de Catalunya from October 18 to 20, bringing with it the best selection of fresh and local products, as well as a rich gastronomic offer. In its thirteenth edition, this event continues to consolidate itself as a celebration of Barcelona’s gastronomic culture and local markets.

The Fira Mercat de MercatsA space for local gastronomy

The Fira Mercat de Mercats has become a meeting place for all lovers of sustainable and local gastronomy. This year, twelve municipal markets will be present offering high quality fresh products, including fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and much more. The markets are the heart of this fair, a space where proximity and sustainability take center stage, reminding us of the importance of healthy and conscious eating. In addition, the fair will have a restaurant area where you can taste tapas from different restaurants, many of them representatives of the city’s markets. Tapas will be available at popular prices, allowing attendees to enjoy a varied and accessible gastronomic experience. From a seafood fideuá to a pork bao, the options are diverse and promise to surprise all palates.

Activities for all audiences

During the three days of the fair, attendees will be able to participate in more than twenty activities, including workshops, talks and showcookings. Michelin-starred chefs such as Jordi Artal and Yoshikazu Suto will offer live culinary demonstrations, showcasing their techniques and gastronomic knowledge. These showcookings allow visitors to learn from the best and enjoy the culinary art at its best. In addition, activities have been organized for children, such as workshops on healthy eating, sustainability and the ecological footprint of food. These initiatives seek to raise awareness among youngsters about the importance of responsible eating and the impact of our purchasing decisions. The “Creix amb el Peix” workshop is one of the highlights, where children will learn about Mediterranean fish species and the benefits of fish consumption, promoting a diet rich in fresh and local products.

Mercat de Mercats: more than a trade fair

The Fira Mercat de Mercats is not only a gastronomic event, it is a space for socializing, learning and culture, where responsible consumption and circular economy are promoted. Municipal markets not only offer quality products, but also promote the Mediterranean diet and conscious shopping, contributing to the reduction of the ecological footprint and food waste. The councilor of Commerce, Restoration and Markets, Raquel Gil, has highlighted the central role of markets in the city, noting that “markets are the soul of the neighborhoods, economic engines and spaces for meeting and learning“. This event is, without a doubt, an opportunity for locals and visitors to rediscover the gastronomic richness of the city and connect with local markets.

Local gastronomy and local products

Once again this year, the fair will have a space dedicated to local products, where attendees will be able to learn about and taste handmade products produced in Catalonia. From sausages to desserts, the offer is varied and reflects the tradition and know-how of local producers. Sustainability also plays a key role in this edition, with a specific space for the purchase of fresh products that can be cooked on the spot in a grill area. This “buy and eat” approach allows attendees to enjoy a unique experience, connecting directly with the products and their origin.

An experience that goes beyond gastronomy

The Fira Mercat de Mercats 2024 is part of the program of the Cultural Regatta, an event promoted by the Barcelona City Council in the framework of the America’s Cup sailing competition. During the days of the fair, the regattas will be broadcast live on a giant screen installed in Plaça de Catalunya, offering attendees a complete experience that combines gastronomy and sport. In addition, live music will be one of the main protagonists of the event, with daily performances that will enliven the fair. From DJ’s to local bands, the musical offer promises to make Mercat de Mercats a vibrant and lively space.
