The former Myrurgia industrial building will be converted into a social services center.

The Barcelona City Council has announced the construction of a new social services center in the Sagrada Família neighborhood, located in the former Myrurgia industrial building.

Work on the construction of this new facility began this week and is expected to take 16 months.

The first stage of the works consists of the demolition of the existing building inside the block bounded by the streets of Nàpols, Provença, Mallorca and Sicília.

In order to minimize the impact on the activity of the day care center located at this site, the work has been scheduled during the month of August.

The demolition of the building is expected to be completed by the end of August, which will allow the reopening of the Beatriu de Provença Gardens, which have been closed since July 27.

The new social services center will have an area of 800 square meters distributed over two floors. The lower floor will be dedicated to direct attention to citizens, while the upper floor will house the internal work of the center’s staff.

In addition, the roof will be converted into a façade with a vegetated finish, integrating with the natural surroundings of the adjoining gardens, the nursery and the playground.

This initiative is part of the municipal government’s policy of revitalizing the existing block interiors and promoting the recovery of new green spaces.

The planned investment for this project is 4.5 million euros, which includes both the demolition of the old building and the construction of the new social center.

Myrurgia Industrial Building is transformed

The Sagrada Família social services center, one of 40 spread throughout the city, serves approximately 6,000 residents of the neighborhood with the help of a staff of 18 professionals.

The construction of this new facility will improve the care and services provided to the community.

The objective of this transformation is to turn block interiors into vital and dynamic places, providing more functional and attractive urban spaces for citizens.

In addition, the rehabilitation of the former Myrurgia industrial building will contribute to the recovery of an emblematic place in the neighborhood, which before bearing the name of Beatriu de Provença, was popularly known as Myrurgia, a factory of reference in the area.

The construction of a new center represents an important step towards improving services and revitalizing the urban environment in Barcelona.

The investment and effort put into this project reflect the municipal government’s commitment to the well-being and quality of life of its citizens.

The new social services center will be a key space to address the needs of the community and promote social and community development in the area.
