The Barcelona City Council has started the redevelopment works of the Jardins de Les Hortes de Sant Bertran, in the picturesque neighborhood of Poble Sec.
This ambitious project, with a budget of three million euros and framed within the Pla de Barris, aims to transform this space into an urban park of approximately 6,000 square meters, consolidating it as one of the main green lungs of the city of Barcelona.
The initiative, the result of a process of active participation by neighbors and the neighborhood’s educational community, is expected to be completed by the end of next year, according to municipal forecasts.
The Hortes de Sant Bertran Gardens are transformed
The redevelopment plan includes a comprehensive remodeling of more than 4,000 square meters of gardens, incorporating new playgrounds, sports areas and leisure areas.
In addition, it contemplates the transfer of the dog area to the current Parc del Mirador, thus providing a more suitable environment for these animals.
The intervention will include the creation of a new elevated crosswalk on Paseo de Montjuïc, with the aim of improving accessibility and road safety conditions in the area.

This project seeks to unify the two green spaces of the Jardins de Les Hortes de Sant Bertran, which are currently separated by Carrera Street.
The proposal, which has received enthusiastic support from local residents and educators, has as its central objective to encourage community use of green space, diversify recreational areas and improve accessibility to facilities.
Access terraces will also be improved
In addition to the creation of the new urban park, a substantial improvement is planned for the access terraces to the Poble-Sec viewpoint. These areas will enjoy new recreational activities, such as playground equipment and calisthenics machines for the enjoyment of all users.
The relocation of the designated dog area will allow for the expansion of both the play area and the area dedicated to the animals, gaining approximately 300 square meters.
The new pet area will be better equipped and will connect more efficiently with the natural spaces of Montjuïc mountain, offering an enhanced experience for residents and their beloved pets.
This project not only seeks to create a green and healthy environment for the Poble Sec community, but also aims to promote social cohesion, diversity of activities and accessibility in one of Barcelona’s most emblematic areas.
With an approach focused on citizen participation, the Jardins de Les Hortes de Sant Bertran is expected to become a benchmark of sustainable urban development and community well-being for locals and visitors alike.
