One of the most recent novelties highlighted by the Barcelona City Council has to do with a space dedicated to the enjoyment of children. In this sense, today we want to talk about an inclusive project, which will be, so far, the largest playground in Barcelona: Els Tres Bolets, in the Jardins de Màlaga, specifically in the neighborhood of Sants.

The intention of this project is to abolish vertical walls, dangerous slides and the characteristic stainless steel swings. With the implementation of this project, the city begins to open up to the various possibilities of urban spaces for the children of the city.

Barcelona’s largest playground for all ages

The people responsible for this project are Rosselló Sangenís arquitectes. And under the name Els Tres Bolets, they intend to turn Els Jardins de Màlaga into a kind of forest from which stand three giant mushrooms, which are designed for a specific age group.

In addition to this play area, there is also a more peaceful area dedicated to the experimentation with soil and other natural elements. It will also have bleachers for rest. This will then be one of the first play areas to be adapted. But it will also stand out, as already mentioned, for being the largest in Barcelona.

However, it will not be the only one with these special features, as a macro-set of swings will be installed on Poblenou beach and the Besòs area will be recognized for having the two highest play towers in the city.

The idea of all these projects is that they are divided by age, with a great diversity of stimulating games. This is the case of the musical mushrooms, the climbing area, the roller slide and trampolines.

Playable Barcelona will be a reality by 2024

It is worth noting that these urban spaces have a defined objective, and according to the second deputy mayor, Janet Sanz, what they seek is to make Barcelona a “playable city”. It is worth mentioning that this is a plan initiated by the City Council in 2018, which consists of reviewing, renovating and putting up new parks in Barcelona in order to encourage outdoor physical activity.

The initiative includes 10 children’s play areas that are spread throughout the city, including this one in the Jardins de Màlaga. Finally, another major objective is that playgrounds should be accessible and at least 15 minutes away from home.
