As part of the Barcelona Manga Fair 2022 held at the Fira Gran Via venue in Barcelona, the Manga Barcelona awards were presented.
These awards recognize the best manga and anime works in different categories that were published in Spain in the last year.
During the first day of the event (December 8), awards were presented to the winners in the different categories. The most outstanding were:
- Best Spanish Manga Authors Category to El tiempo de los tres by Fidel de Tovar and Dani Bermúdez (Norma Editorial).
- Category of Best anime in physical format to Guardians of the Night (Collector’s Edition), distributed by Selecta Visión.
The Barcelona Manga Fair held until today December 11 its 28th edition, this year in the new location at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via de L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
Since sales began, tickets have sold out, reaching a total of 152,000 tickets sold. This confirmed an increase in visitor attendance of up to 30% compared to 2019.
However, although the tickets were sold out, there was an option to buy more tickets during the days of the event.
The Manga Barcelona Awards
The Barcelona Manga Fair is the reference event of the Manga world in Spain.
Its programming and design is very well planned since its organization and nothing was left to chance.
In fact, exclusive premieres of pilot chapters of movies and series such as the feature film of One Piece by TOEI Animation were achieved.
The event was inaugurated by Miquel Iceta, Minister of Culture and Sports; Natàlia Garriga, Councilor of Culture and Jaume Collboni, Deputy Mayor.
Other event activities
The event’s eight halls and three stages offered attendees a variety of activities during the days of the show.
The Nihon Room, for example, was a room dedicated to Japanese gastronomy. At another show the major manga publishers announced their upcoming releases. One of them was the Kitsune room, where comics and fanzines were presented.
During Friday’s session, “The Night of the Nerds: Dragon Ball’s Catalan dubbing” took place in the Kitsune Room. Marc Zanni and Joan Sanz.
On Saturday, Yoko Takahashi, the famous singer from Evangelion, was present on the Grand Stage.
The World Cosplay Summit was also held at the Grand Stage.
In the auditorium, several premieres were presented, such as the One Piece Film Red, with giveaways.
On the last day of the event in the Manga Academy Room, the round table on “Gender and manga”: identity in manga was held.
