The resurgence of Port Fòrum: an urban oasis in expansion

The rebirth of a private port

Two decades have passed since the inauguration of Port Fòrum following the Universal Forum of Cultures event. This space, located on the northern edge of Barcelona, is now looking to expand and reinvent itself. With an investment of 30 million euros, future projections are focused on providing the area with new experiences for locals and tourists alike.

Among the most noteworthy works, the construction of a second outer dyke seeks to better protect against the effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels and storms. This seawall, using innovative Xbloc block technology, promises to save 40% of concrete and reduce CO2 emissions by 3,000 tons.

PORT FORUMModernization and sustainability at stake

Port Fòrum aims to become a more sustainable center. The Sustainability Classroom as a whole offers initiatives such as biomimetic reefs in collaboration with Ocean Ecostructures. In addition, the creation of the first Spanish hydrogen boat is part of its environmental commitment.

Along with the construction of the dock, this private port has also worked on the Green Dock. There, the use of underwater drones to monitor biomarine structures and measure environmental parameters, such as water quality, highlights its commitment to sustainability.

The potential of an emerging urban destination

Despite its location, somewhat isolated if not by car, the objective of Port Fòrum is to open up the city with a focus on the revitalization of the environment. With panoramic views over the Mediterranean, the appearance of a new hotel-resort with 500 rooms helps to boost the popularity of the port, seeking to triple annual visits.

Its director, Eduardo Guerrero, says that Port Fòrum wants to become a “dynamic urban oasis”. This project aims to quadruple annual visits, from one to four million visitors, thanks to the opening of new spaces and attractions.

New life for Parc de la Pau and beyond

Included in the expansion plan is the revitalization of Parc de la Pau, a green jewel adjacent to the port. The construction of a BMX bike pumptrack and a kiosk highlight these improvements aimed at enhancing the visitor experience.

Port Fòrum also aspires to be a cultural and leisure center through the Sea Sea Club. With a focus on live music, art exhibitions and an urban spa, it is envisioned as a space for outdoor entertainment. In addition, it plans to open a water activities area that could even house a tethered balloon in the style of Paris or Berlin.

Looking to the future

Beyond its current facilities, which include 270 berths and the largest dry marina in Catalonia, the port dares to dream of new opportunities. Through strategic reforms and the introduction of cutting-edge technology, Port Fòrum is determined to establish itself as a gateway to innovation and entertainment.

With its visionary approach and focus on sustainability, the port not only aspires to be a point of reference in Barcelona, but also a bastion of citizen welfare and coastal safety.
