The return of the RETEENA Festival in its 8th edition

The atmosphere in Barcelona is about to light up with the arrival of a new edition of the Festival Audiovisual Jove, known as RETEENA. This December 5, 2025, young film lovers are preparing to enjoy ten days full of screenings, talks and activities in different parts of the city such as the Filmoteca de Catalunya, the CCCB, the Nau Bostik and the Zumzeig cinema. The festival, which has been strongly consolidated throughout its eight-year history, continues to be a symbol of creativity, criticism and youth participation.

The Reteena

A young and participatory approach

Since its inception, RETEENA has been distinguished by its participatory philosophy. Each year, the RETEENA Team, made up of young people between the ages of 19 and 25, takes the reins of the festival. This team is involved in all stages of the event, from conception to production, guaranteeing an enriching and educational experience for those involved.

This year, the festival invites you to explore dualities and contradictions, a theme especially relevant to youth. Inspired by artist Daniela Efe, the festival promises to be a space where cinema becomes a place of transformation, irony and freedom. Daniela describes it perfectly when she states, “We are all earthly, but also heavenly.”

Diverse and provocative programming

The 2025 programming promises to surprise attendees. Opening with “Lesbian Space Princess,” a queer space opera full of humor, is just the beginning. A winner at international festivals, this film sets the tone for a series of screenings celebrating diversity and creativity.

Another gem of the festival is “La misteriosa mirada del flamenco,” a Chilean film that combines elements of westerns with a provocative narrative. Not far behind is “Pillion,” a work that challenges notions of masculinity and vulnerability, while “The Left-Handed Girl” offers an introspection into family relationships. Finally, “Little Amélie” promises to enchant with its poetic adaptation.

In addition, short films also have their space. The sessions of Acció>Cinema will highlight short productions from Mexico, Colombia and Brazil, which address issues of social transformation.

Cultural activities at Nau Bostik

RETEENA not only focuses on cinema, but also seeks to transform the Nau Bostik into an epicenter of cultural activities. Among them, a conversation with the protagonists of “Romería” stands out, which will offer the public a glimpse behind the scenes of the production. In addition, creator Junior Healy will bring his peculiar approach to pop horror and *true crimes*, promising a talk full of humor and criticism.

The day will culminate with the screening of the classic “The Children of the Corn”, in addition to a special edition of Habitació 910, which brings back unique musical proposals by Jordi Chicletol and Alvie.

The jury and the commitment to new voices

This year’s jury is made up of three creators with a fresh and committed approach: Sofia Esteve, Juno Álvarez and Nora Haddad. Each brings her own style and experience to the festival, ensuring a diverse and fair evaluation of the works presented.

For its part, the Laboratorio Audiovisual Jove (Young Audiovisual Laboratory) is a fundamental pillar. This program supports young filmmakers between the ages of 17 and 25 by offering mentoring, workshops and an opportunity to present their projects to important production companies.

A renewed commitment to audiovisual

RETEENA is not just a film festival; it is a platform that promotes emerging talent and reaffirms the value of cinema as a tool for expression and social transformation. With proposals that invite reflection and debate, this edition promises to be an unforgettable event in Barcelona’s cultural calendar.

Soon, the lights will be turned on and the magic of cinema will conquer the hearts of all attendees, an unmissable event for lovers of the seventh art!

Tickets are now available at the festival’s official website, at the Filmoteca de Catalunya and at the box office, with prices ranging from 4 to 7 euros, discounts for young people and free activities.
