Sailing enthusiasts and water sports lovers have all their senses set on Barcelona, a city that has welcomed with open arms the exciting competition of the Rolex TP52 World Championship 2023.
This TP52 class event is the fourth scoring race for the 52 Super Series 2023. It will be held in Marina Vela from August 22 to 26 in collaboration with Club Nàutic Vilassar de Mar.
Barcelona welcomed the ten boats from seven different nations, all competing for the coveted TP52 world title.
Although the official training day prior to the start of the championship was marked by the absence of wind on the race course, the excitement and determination of the teams has not diminished.
The wind is expected to cooperate in the coming days, offering a championship full of action and excitement.
A wind of excitement in Barcelona: Rolex TP52 World Championship 2023
Participants who have been practicing on the 37th America’s Cup race course remain optimistic that the event can get underway on the scheduled day.
Harm Müller-Spreer’s Platoon team stands out as one of the early favorites. With two world titles under his belt and a recent victory in the 52 Super Series regatta in Mahon (Menorca) in July, Platoon appears to be in excellent shape.
However, the defending champion team, Quantum Racing powered by American Magic, will not be far behind. With Terry Hutchinson at the helm as tactician and the addition of young Italian navigator Nico Sanfelici, the team is looking to maintain its status as a formidable rival in the competition.
One resurgence that catches the eye is the Phoenix team from South Africa. Although it had a discreet start to the season, the team has the opportunity to shine in the championship.
With the experienced Ed Baird returning as part of the team and New Zealand strategist Cameron Dunn optimistic about Phoenix’s prospects, this team could spring a surprise in the competition.
Weather conditions will be key in the competition
The weather plays an important role in the development of the championship. The first days of racing are expected to be marked by light winds and sea breezes, which could increase in intensity towards the final days of the competition, especially on Friday and Saturday.
The organizers have adjusted the start time of the competition to adapt to the weather forecast, summoning the fleet to the Barcelona race course at 14:00 hours.
The races will be broadcast live on the official 52 Super Series platforms, providing the opportunity to experience the excitement of this prestigious competition from anywhere in the world.
