The sound sculpture in the form of a circulatory system that you can visit at MNAC

The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) houses a striking work of art that is capturing the attention of visitors. It is “Trena”, a sound sculpture created by the artist Laia Estruch, which is located in the Oval Room of the museum and will be available for visits from July 6 of this year until September 3.

“Trena” is an imposing structure that resembles a circulatory system. It is composed of three large 35-meter long tubes that intertwine with each other, evoking the shape of a braid and referencing both hairstyles and the human blood system.

The work is not only a visually stunning sculpture, but also a sound installation that invites the public to walk through it.

Of the three tubes that make up the sculpture, one of them is enabled for visitors to enter and tour its interior.

While inside, visitors will experience a unique piece of music, recorded with the artist’s voice and produced in collaboration with Xavi Lloses.

This piece of music, distorted in such a way that it seems to come from electronic flutes, is played every hour and adds an aural dimension to the experience.

The sound sculpture “Trena” at MNAC: a unique experience for visitors

The sculpture has been designed to amplify and delocalize the sound of the human body. When speaking aloud inside the sculpture, visitors will experience an echo effect similar to that found in a cave or an empty space.

Laia Estruch carries out experimental practices with her voice within sculpture, using space as a stage to explore the relationship between voice, choreography and sculpture itself.

This work represents an important milestone in Laia Estruch’s career, as it is the first time she incorporates audience interaction into her art.

The artist wants viewers to experience sensations similar to those she herself experiences during her artistic explorations.

Upon entering “Trena,” the sculpture transports visitors out of the city and out of the museum, creating a moving sculptural space that invites visitors to spread the word and explore the human body from a unique perspective.

The exhibition is yet another example of art’s ability to arouse emotions and offer immersive experiences.

MNAC has succeeded in providing visitors with a unique opportunity to interact with a work of art and explore the limits of public space and circulation systems within an environment that is exposed and open to the gaze.

If you have the opportunity, do not hesitate to visit the MNAC and immerse yourself in the unforgettable experience “inside the human body”.
