Barcelona’s streetcar, an iconic symbol of the city, has been undergoing a series of changes in recent months. But it is already a fact that from September 1, the circulation of the tramway is completely normal again between Ciutadella and Sant Adrià de Besòs.
Major works have recently been carried out in Plaça de les Glòries, which has temporarily affected the service of line 4 of the tramway. From June 26 to August 31, this line did not operate in its entirety. In addition, these works also had an impact on line 4 of the Barcelona metro.
With this, the temporary interruption came to an end and citizens will once again be able to enjoy full streetcar service.
One of the new developments is the construction of a new stop in Glòries, which is located in an area where improvements and various works are still underway.
This station is located right in front of the HUB Design Museum and, according to the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità, will allow connections to various public transport services, including Line 1 of the Barcelona metro and several bus lines.
The improvement and adaptation works are focused on the connection of the Verdaguer and Glòries stops. This involves the installation of new tracks and the connection of these with the existing ones at the new Glòries stop.
These improvements not only benefit the tramway, but also Line 1 of the Barcelona metro, which has undergone an extension of its vestibule thanks to the replacement of the old tracks.
Tests on the new section of Glòries: the streetcar comes back to life
The news is that the streetcars have started running again in a test phase along the new section of Glòries. This section will allow the connection with the new interchange to be located in front of the Design Museum. As part of these tests, the streetcars have been running at a reduced speed on the new route.
During the tests carried out on August 28, the streetcars operated at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour under the supervision of technicians who ensured that everything was working properly.
These tests will continue in the coming days, which means that citizens will be able to see the streetcars in motion, although full service has not yet been restored.
Barcelona’s tramway is undergoing a series of changes that will undoubtedly significantly improve the public transport experience in the city.
From the construction of a new stop at Glòries to tests on the new section, these developments will not only benefit residents, but also visitors wishing to explore Barcelona more efficiently.
