In Barcelona there is now a unique opportunity to ride the metro for free for three years. This is the T-Verde, a personal and non-transferable ticket that offers the possibility of using the city’s subway transportation system free of charge. But how can this card be obtained and what are the requirements to access it?
The T-Verde is an initiative of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) that seeks to encourage the use of public transport, especially in times of high pollution in the city. Through this ticket, citizens can enjoy unlimited travel on the metro, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) and Cercanías service for three consecutive years.
Requirements to travel free of charge with the T-Green T-Card
To obtain the T-Green, it is necessary to comply with a series of requirements established by TMB:
- Be of legal age.
- To be registered in the municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona.
- To have deregistered and scrapped a self-owned vehicle without an environmental label.
- Commit not to purchase another vehicle during the term of the T-Green.
- The scrapped vehicles must have been owned by the applicant for at least the last six months prior to scrapping.
- Not having acquired any new vehicle in the six months prior to the date of application for the T-Green.
Vehicles eligible for this program are those that do not meet established environmental standards, such as older diesel and gasoline cars, as well as motorcycles of models prior to certain dates.
It is important to note that the T-Verde is a personal and non-transferable title, linked to the user’s name and ID card, and is automatically renewed every year at no additional cost.
The application for the T-Verde can be made through the TMB website, and once approved, the user can enjoy three years of free transport on the Barcelona metro and its surroundings.
Green: economy and less pollution
This initiative not only benefits users by offering them an economical and sustainable alternative for getting around the city, but also contributes to the reduction of air pollution by promoting the use of public transportation.
The T-Verde represents a unique opportunity to access the Barcelona metro free of charge for three years, as long as the requirements established by TMB are met. With this initiative, the city is moving towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility model, inviting citizens to opt for public transportation options that contribute to improving air quality and reducing polluting emissions.
Although this ticket is valid for three years, it must be renewed annually since after this time it is no longer valid.
