This week begins the urbanization works of a new public space in the neighborhood of Pedralbes, in the district of Les Corts. The project will be developed at the intersection of carrer de John Maynard Keynes and passatge de Trias i Giró, with the aim of creating an accessible meeting place for all ages, including children’s games, a petanque area and exercise equipment.
A comprehensive reform to improve coexistence
The project, with a budget of 1 million euros, is part of the Pla de Manteniment Integral (PMI), part of Pla Endreça, which seeks to maintain, renovate and transform Barcelona’s public spaces. This plan contemplates nearly 3,000 actions until 2028, with a total investment of 435 million euros, of which 180 million will be managed by the districts themselves, placing the neighborhoods at the center of urban planning decisions. Among the most outstanding improvements, the project includes not only the creation of recreational areas, but also the incorporation of Mediterranean vegetation, efficient lighting and the installation of new urban furniture, such as benches and litter garbage cans, which will make this space a more welcoming and sustainable place.
Remodeling of the passatge Josep Canals i Mercader
One of the key actions is the remodeling of the passatge Josep Canals i Mercader, where the existing stairs and ramps will be preserved, but the continuity of the vegetation will be improved and it will be ensured that there are no dark or inconspicuous areas thanks to a new lighting configuration. The project will also respect the existing retaining wall in the green area adjacent to the sidewalk of John Maynard Keynes street, ensuring the integration of the space without losing its current structure.
A greener and more accessible Barcelona
The objective of this renovation is to improve the quality of public space in the Pedralbes neighborhood, creating areas that promote coexistence and the well-being of residents. This new space will provide an accessible place for all ages, from children to the elderly, with areas designed for play, exercise and rest. With an estimated duration of six months, the works will be completed in the first half of 2024, significantly improving the environment and adding to other important interventions in parks, gardens and paving in Les Corts.
