Tvboy, the renowned Italian artist known for his urban artwork, has invaded the Disseny Hub in Barcelona with his exhibition entitled “Tvboy. The invasion”.
The exhibition, which will be open until September 11, 2023, brings together a total of 70 works including original paintings on canvas, installations and photographs related to urban art.
Over the years, Tvboy has evolved in his artistic approach. While in the beginning he focused on satire and irony in his works, he has now turned more to documentation and conveying social messages.
He believes that his renown and popularity provide him with an opportunity to address relevant issues affecting society.
“Tvboy. The invasion”: a thematic tour
The exhibition at the Disseny Hub in Barcelona offers visitors a thematic tour through Tvboy’s works, which address universal themes such as love, power, contemporary heroes and art history.
Paintings on canvas, installations and urban art photographs are strategically located both inside and outside the venue.
Nicolas Ballario, curator of the exhibition, emphasizes that Tvboy perfectly embodies our time by eliminating the boundaries between artistic disciplines, allowing us to abandon a categorized and sterile vision of the world.
In one of the exhibited works, Tvboy poses the question, “What is a kiss?”. With a kiss between Messi and Cristiano, iconic characters worldwide, the artist reflects on how love can help overcome rivalries.
The classics from a contemporary perspective
Another part of the collection focuses on the distortion and adaptation of the great classics of art from a contemporary perspective.
Tvboy breaks the sacredness of the works and merges them with a new society marked by immediacy. For example, in one of his works, he depicts Jesus taking the apostles to a McDonald’s at the Last Supper, alluding to today’s society and its relationship with religion and consumer culture.
In addition to his artistic facet, Tvboy has also participated in humanitarian projects. In Ukraine, he created 15 murals in collaboration with the NGO Cesvi to portray the silent resistance of a people struggling to maintain their daily lives in the midst of war.
He also collaborated with Open Arms by creating a mural on the organization’s ship, conveying a message of hope and joy to those who have been on the brink of death.
Among Tvboy’s favorite works is the mural of Santa Rosalia, patron saint of Palermo, hometown of singer Rosalia. This representation has generated impact, since many believe that it is an image of the saint and do not know who the singer is.
