With an investment of more than 7.5 million euros, two new municipal nurseries will open in Barcelona by the end of 2023.
One will be in the neighborhood of Sant Martí de Provençals, Sant Martí district, and the other in the neighborhood of La Teixonera, in Horta-Guinardó.
The initiative arose from the lack of public day care centers in the city. The consistory is fully aware of this situation.
The objective, according to the councilman of Education of the consistory, Pau Gonzàlez, is to continue expanding the network of these institutions.
The new municipal day care centers in Barcelona
The two centers will serve as daycare centers and, at the same time, as municipal family childcare centers open to the neighborhood.
Likewise, the building of the Sant Martí center of the former Pere Calafell educational facility will also house the Municipal School of Music in the future.
As for the La Teixonera kindergarten, it will have 107 new kindergarten places. The one in Sant Martí will serve to expand and relocate the current Escola Bressol Municipal L’Esquitx, which will eventually have 22 more places.
Both centers will offer 60 family spaces.
On the other hand, the City Council acquired a 752 square meter property in the neighborhood of El Carmel. There are also plans to locate another municipal daycare center in this space, the opening date of which is not yet known.
The investment for the three projects is estimated at more than 7.5 million euros. Together with these projects, the network of municipal daycare centers will reach 104 centers.
But it highlights that between 2022-2023 there will be an increase of 1.6 million euros in professional resources.
