Two stages of the Tour of Spain 2023 will pass through Barcelona

The excitement of cycling will come to Barcelona on August 26 and 27 with the celebration of two stages of the Vuelta España 2023.

The city will become the epicenter of international cycling, hosting a team time trial and a stage finishing at the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys.

The city is in countdown, preparing to receive one of the most prestigious cycling competitions in the world, after 61 years since its last outing in 1962.

David Escudé, Barcelona’s Sports Councilman, assures that the city is preparing a first class device so that this great sporting spectacle will be remembered for a long time.

The Catalan capital will dress up to welcome the best cyclists in the world and offer them a unique setting, passing through the most emblematic places of the Catalan capital.

Stages in Barcelona in the framework of the Tour of Spain 2023

The first stage, which will take place on Saturday, August 26, will be an exciting team time trial through various emblematic areas of the city.

The race will start at the Somorrostro beach at around 19:00 and will end at the Reina María Cristina avenue at around 21:00.

The teams will conduct official training sessions starting at 4:00 p.m., allowing spectators to watch the riders warm up.

The route of the first stage will include iconic places such as Somorrostro beach, Diagonal avenue, Plaza de España and Reina María Cristina avenue, offering cyclists and the public a unique experience in the streets of Barcelona.

The excitement will continue on Sunday, August 27 with the second stage, which will start in Mataró at 12:00 noon and conclude at the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys in Barcelona. The cyclists will face an intense climb to Montjuïc, after riding along the Gran Vía de les Corts Catalanes.

Although this stage does not present major technical difficulties, it will be a challenge for the more speed-oriented cyclists.

It is estimated that the runners will arrive in Barcelona between 16:30 and 17:30 hours, generating great expectation among the spectators who will congregate at the Olympic Stadium.

Mobility in the city during these days

It is important to note that these sporting events will affect mobility in the city. During the first stage, the circuit will be isolated from traffic from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 26.

Likewise, the second stage will affect mobility in Barcelona from 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 27, especially in the Montjuïc circuit, which will be isolated between 15:00 and 17:30 hours.
