Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization meets in Barcelona

The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) will meet in Barcelona for its XVII General Assembly on April 21-22, 2023.

UNPO is an international organization made up of minorities, non-sovereign or occupied territories and indigenous peoples.

He is also an active member of several international bodies, such as the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.

Catalonia is one of the member territories, as well as Brittany, the Crimean Tatars and Tibet. It has been represented through the Assemblea Nacional Catalana, ANC, since 2018.

During the last general assembly held in Washington D.C., the former president of the pro-independence organization Elisenda Paluzie was elected vice-president of UNPO. He still holds the position.

Nations and peoples not represented

The ANC will be responsible for hosting the XVII General Assembly of the Organization.

He will also lead two days of meetings and an event of his own on Thursday, April 20 in the aula magna of Casa Convalescència, which will take place at 7:30 pm.

It will be a round table with members of stateless nations and peoples, which will be open to the public and press with prior registration. Another advantage is that it can be followed in streaming on the entity’s channel.

UNPO’s visit to Barcelona is another sign of international recognition. It is also an opportunity to make visible the struggle of stateless peoples for their right to the defense of human rights and self-determination.
