Until April 2023 The magnificent Cage of Madwomen at Teatre Tívoli

Until the end of April 2023, the Teatre Tivoli will once again be decked out in glamour, music, feathers, sequins and fun with La Jaula de las Locas, the musical.

Inspired by the popular play by Jean Poiret, the musical integrates the talents of Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein and has been performed all over the world since its premiere.

The play has received nine Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards.

The musical is back at the Tívoli Theater in a version directed by Àngel Llàcer and Manu Guix.

The work has always been considered a great hymn to individual and collective freedom. It is a daring staging that includes a spectacular costume design, amazing choreography and, above all, a universal theme.

For this reason, it has always been one of the most acclaimed musicals in history.

At each performance “La Jaula” is transformed into a party, a celebration of the joy of living. And the Tivoli stage will be no exception.

Its directors Àngel Llàcer and Manu Guix have been in charge of recovering the musical that was premiered in 1984 and was already considered “old-fashioned”.

This is the third season where Jerry Herman’s music and Harvey Fierstein’s libretto have managed to attract the general public to a play that rightly stars a gay couple.

Brilliant dance numbers, the stage that recreates the golden ages and its divas, make the play a splendid show.

An explosive comedy

The story narrates the peaceful life of the couple Albin and Georges, who own the nightclub La Cage aux Folles in Saint Tropez, until they receive unexpected news that alters everything.

Jean Michel, Georges’ son, announces his marriage to the daughter of an ultra-conservative deputy, defender of tradition and the values of family life.

The stage is the perfect place to see the explosive encounter between the two very different families, which gives rise to the funny comedy full of love and out-of-the-ordinary situations.

The Tivoli is one of the city’s century-old theaters that opened its doors for the first time in 1849 in the Tivoli Gardens. However, the current headquarters dates back to 1918.

Since 1991 the theater has been a representative site for the development of all kinds of shows in the city, especially plays.

Concerts, text theater, dance, classical ballet, among others, are the artistic works most often presented on this stage.
