A long-awaited project takes shape
Barcelona is witnessing the start of a significant urban project with the commissioning of the second phase of the Ronda de Dalt ring road. This project not only promises to improve the existing infrastructure, but also aims to revitalize the surrounding urban area, providing new spaces for citizen enjoyment and community interaction.
The Ronda de Dalt will be covered as of June 2024
The work and its impact
The work, which will extend 540 meters between Vallcarca Avenue and IES Vall d’Hebron, will include the creation of a tunnel covered by a concrete structure and pre-slabs. This design will not only facilitate mobility but also reduce noise and environmental pollution, a constant concern for residents in the surrounding areas.
Technical innovations and design
The roof design includes a central support wall and six integrated emergency exits, elements that ensure both the safety and functionality of the project. The work, which will begin with the closure of certain lanes to facilitate the work, is expected to be completed in May 2027.

Community commitments and expectations
For years, the local community has been demanding a solution to the problems arising from the Ronda de Dalt. The city government, recognizing this need, has responded with a project that not only seeks to improve infrastructure but also, and more importantly, to strengthen social cohesion and the urban fabric of the area.
A comprehensive plan for a better city
This project is part of a broader agreement, the Pact for the transformation of the Ronda de Dalt, which includes neighborhood organizations and municipal groups. This covenant aims to ensure that the project reflects the needs and expectations of all stakeholders, creating a space that benefits the entire community.
Economic impact and financing
The total cost of the project is estimated at 41 million euros, a significant investment that the City Council expects to more than justify the urban and social benefits it will generate.
A green and accessible future
Once the coverage is completed, additional works will be carried out to urbanize the space generated, creating walking areas and spaces for activities that will be designed with sustainability and accessibility criteria.
A forward-looking project
This project will not only transform a section of the Ronda de Dalt, but is also expected to serve as a model for future urban interventions in other parts of the city and potentially in other cities seeking similar solutions to infrastructure and urbanization problems.
In short, the coverage of the Ronda de Dalt is not just an infrastructure project, but a city project that promises to transform urban life, promote sustainability and improve the quality of life of citizens. With this initiative, Barcelona once again positions itself as a city that looks to the future, innovating in urban solutions that combine technology, design and social welfare.
