Uzbekistan plans to build a neighborhood for 120,000 people inspired by Barcelona. Currently, a project called ‘Barcelona District’ is being promoted by Sedrak Petrosyan, accompanied by architect Josep Antoni Acebillo. It is worth noting that the Uzbek capital is immersed in an ambitious expansion plan that will provide solutions to decontamination and housing problems.
It is important to highlight that this city is building new residential areas comprising 25,000 hectares. They are located between two rivers and are driven by large private investors. Among the deeded projects is the Barcelona District, which is promoted by the Armenian-Catalan Sedrak Petrosyan.
Likewise, the CEO of Petrosyan Group plans an entire neighborhood that is set in the layout of Pla Cerdà and some of the 22@ buildings.
120,000 people expected to live
This idea of the project has been outlined by Josep Antoni Acebillo, the urban planning manager of Barcelona during Pasqual Maragall’s mayoralty, as well as the author of most of the changes to the 1992 Olympic Games city.
The architect’s idea was to create a 200-hectare district where 120,000 people are expected to live. This neighborhood will have hospitals, offices, commercial spaces, green areas and a sports complex, and best of all, it will have the fifth tower of almost 600 meters high, recognized as the tallest tower in the world.
Uzbekistan plans to build: Uzbekistan-Catalonia connection
What Petrosyan is looking for is to give the neighborhood a Catalan touch. This businessman only hires architectural firms, urban planners, Catalan universities or hotel brands. For example, Ramon Llull is planning to open a branch in Tashkent. He also dreams that the restaurants in the neighborhood will become Principat cuisine.
It is also worth mentioning that another idea is to build a metro network that offers materials and know-how. This is a great economic boost for Barcelona. This project is scheduled to be completed between 2031 and 2033.
Groundbreaking on September 1
As the leader explains: “If I build a neighborhood dedicated to Barcelona, the minimum requirement is that those involved in it are Catalans”. So far the area has been delimited, and it is estimated that the first stone will be laid on September 1.
For this purpose, an event will be held in which the President of Uzbekistan will be present together with the representatives of Catalonia and Spain.
Uzbekistan plans to build this neighborhood to provide solutions. It is worth mentioning that businessman Sedrak Petrosyan is proud to be Catalan, to such an extent that he speaks Catalan perfectly. Before dedicating himself to his life as an entrepreneur, he studied at the Institut del Teatre. Unfortunately, he was very disappointed when he saw the lighthearted ideas with which the classes were given. And he points out the following: “I was in a bathing suit and with Pushkin on my head and I met teachers smoking marijuana”.
