A few days ago we told you that this year Barcelona will live a different New Year’s Eve, never seen before in the city.
The idea is to turn New Year’s Eve in Barcelonainto an icon of the city, as other major cities in the world, such as New York or Sydney, have already done. We knew that the appointment would be at the Magic Fountain of Montjuicand that the Barcelona City Council has put all its efforts to make the night of the 31st an unforgettable night for those who can live it live and a dream to be realized by those who are not in Barcelona.
Little by little, data and information are coming in. In dribs and drabs, that’s for sure…
Now we know that the twelve traditional New Year’s Eve chimes in Barcelona will be replaced by twelve spectacular fire volcanoes that will mark the time for the attendees to eat the grapes. And that the City Council will offer attendees free cotillion.
Some 20,000 people are expected to attend the Magic Fountain of Montjuic to bid farewell to 2013. And there, at the foot of the Venetian towers, a hundred agents will be in charge of distributing 22,000 bags of grapes provided by Mercabarna.
An impressive show of water music and pyrotechnics that will feature the “castellers” of Sants and the “Ser del Milenio” as protagonists; and that will culminate with the traditional twelve bells in a non-traditional way and that promises to put the finishing touch to the night and the year.
