As of November 28, 2023, public transport users in Barcelona will experience significant changes in their most used transport tickets, such as the T-Usual, T-Casual, T-Familiar and T-Grup. These titles will no longer be sold in their current format and will be incorporated into the T-Mobilitat technology.
These changes will not affect for the time being the Pink Card, intended for senior citizens, which will continue to operate as usual. However, it is crucial to understand the overall transformations in the public transportation system.
Incorporation of T-Mobilitat technology
The T-Usual and T-Casual, along with other transportation tickets, will no longer be sold in their traditional format. Now, they will be incorporated into the T-Mobilitat, which introduces two essential changes: a more resistant cardboard and the option of recharging the card.
In addition, validation will no longer be performed by inserting the card in the slot, but by contact. It will also provide the option of incorporating it into the T-Mobilitat mobile application.
Pink Card, for the time being unchanged
The Pink Card, designed specifically for senior citizens, remains unchanged for the time being.
This ticket, in its two modalities (free or reduced fare), is offered through the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) and is not under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM), which is responsible for the other tickets.
The Pink Card remains free of charge for those with a gross annual income of 9,240 euros or less. The subsidized version, for those with incomes up to 18,480 euros, requires the processing of a T-4 equivalent (two euros for 10 trips).
Users must be able to prove their title with their ID card and be registered in one of the municipalities of the AMB.
Prospects for incorporation into the T-Mobilitat
Although not officially confirmed, there is a possibility that the Pink Card will eventually be incorporated into the T-Mobilitat.
Although the peculiarities of this free and subsidized card do not make it dependent on this technology, the convenience of having it in the cell phone or the fact that it is more resistant and validated by contact could be additional incentives.
Status of other securities for seniors
For those who have the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya pensioner card (two euros for 10 trips), the situation will remain the same, as these tickets will continue to be issued in cardboard format with a magnetic strip.
While some tickets will undergo significant changes with the implementation of the T-Mobilitat, the Pink Card for senior citizens remains unchanged, offering continuity and convenience to its users.
Thus, if you still have in your pocket the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya pensioner card (two euros for 10 trips), the operation remains the same until further notice.
