Camp Nou, the iconic stadium of Futbol Club Barcelona, is undergoing an impressive transformation with its ambitious remodeling project that officially kicked off on June 1.
As the weeks have progressed, the emblematic FC Barcelona stadium has become a scene of demolition and construction, with nearly 400 workers working tirelessly to make this innovative architectural project a reality.
The work, which is progressing in record time, has already passed the demolition phase, with the third grandstand almost gone and the playing field turned into a field of rubble and stones.
Excavation is currently underway at the Tribuna entrance, where the parking lot used to be. This space will house VIP seats and facilities such as the Press Room, combining modernity and tradition in the new stadium.
New features of the Camp Nou remodeling
One of the great novelties that this remodeling will bring is the recovery of the original architectural heritage that had been hidden since the 80’s due to the construction of the third grandstand.
With this remodeling, historical architectural elements will be recovered and will form part of the decoration of the new Camp Nou, giving fans the opportunity to contemplate the essence of the stadium from the inside.
In terms of capacity, the work is being carried out according to a well-defined schedule. By November 2024, the stadium is expected to have between 65,000 and 70,000 seats available, from the second tier down.
The VIP ring, which will be 8 meters long, and the third grandstand will be outlined during the 2024-2025 season, and it is estimated that 90% of the remodeling will be completed by the end of that campaign.
Finally, in late 2025 or early 2026, the roof will be completed and the work will be finished in June 2026.
With the renovation, the stadium will increase its perimeter by 27 meters and will occupy a total of 228,000 square meters. In terms of capacity, it is expected to hold some 104,000 spectators, making the Camp Nou one of the largest stadiums in the world.
Works with sustainability
A fundamental aspect of the project is its focus on sustainability, where every detail has been carefully planned to reduce environmental impact.
From the recycling of materials, such as seats and concrete, to a heat reuse system, the remodeling of the Camp Nou stands out for its commitment to the environment and energy efficiency.
Despite the magnitude of the project, work is progressing steadily and there is still hope that the planned deadlines may even be shortened.
The goal is to provide Futbol Club Barcelona fans with a modern, state-of-the-art stadium where they will enjoy exciting soccer experiences and honor the club’s rich history.
