Starting in June 2022, work will begin on the extension of the Ferrocarrils in Barcelona from Plaça Espanya to Gràcia. The work, which has a budget of 6.4 million dollars, could last 14 months.
The Department of Territory of the Generalitat informed about the start of works in a press release.
14 months of extension works
The first works will be the diversion of services of the connection of the Vallès and Llobregat-Anoia lines of FGC.
These preliminary works will involve the diversion of water, telephone, sewage, gas or electricity and cable networks.
The extension of the Railways contemplates from Plaça Espanya to Gràcia station. There it will connect with the Vallès line.
The works also include the construction of four kilometers of new tunnel. Also, three new stations and the remodeling of the Plaza España station.
The purpose of the works is to improve the city’s rail connectivity. Although this is the initial part, the total works have a budget of 430 million euros.
In the end, it will be possible to connect the two FGC lines. This will improve the rail connection at points such as the Hospital Clínic. Right there will be an FGC stop connected to metro line 5. There will also be a new stop at Francesc Macià, which will connect with the tramway.
For its part, it is expected that the construction project for the civil works of the tunnel and the stations can be put out to tender this autumn and work will begin in the summer of 2023.
