The Times Higher Education 2022 ranking, which evaluates the 200 best universities in the world, included three highly recognized academic institutions in Barcelona in this ranking.
UAB inaugurated first Japanese Studies Office
This ranking analyzes annually the teaching activity in higher education institutions and the academic reputation of the institutions. It also analyzes the teaching environment, as well as the professional links of educational institutions with industry.
The study analyzed a total of 1,799 universities from 104 countries and regions of the world, 137 more than last year.
The universities highlighted in this ranking are:
- The University of Barcelona (UB): ranked 182nd and leads the ranking of Spanish universities.
- The Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB): 183rd place.
- Pompeu Fabra University (UPF): 186th place.
Thus, these three Barcelona centers lead higher education in Spain.

Among the 200 best universities in the world
Barcelona’s three universities are among the top 200. Also in the group are the following universities that top the rankings occupying the first three places:
- Oxford in the United Kingdom
- Harvard in the United States
- Cambridge in the United Kingdom
With respect to other Spanish universities, the University of Navarra is ranked between the 251st and 300th best in the world.
There is also the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, which appears between 301 and 350.
And the Complutense University of Madrid ranked between 401 and 500.

UB, University of Barcelona
It has the largest number of students in the Catalan capital, largely motivated by the excellent educational offer. This educational center is characterized by its extensive trajectory, excellence and tradition. It has 16 faculties, ten affiliated centers and a doctoral school. It has already been considered the best university in Spain on several occasions and is ranked tenth in the world in terms of the youngest universities. In this educational institution it is possible to study Biomedicine, Economics, Finance and Business, Political and Social Sciences and Communication. It also offers studies in History, Humanities, Law, Information Technology and Communications, among others.
