Last night an unforgettable concert was held at the Palau Sant Jordi. It was Joan Manuel Serrat’s farewell to the stage in his beautiful and native Barcelona.
The singer offered his last concert of his farewell tour “El vicio de cantar 1965-2022”.
Last night was the last concert of the tour that took him around the world during the last eight months before he left the stage forever. His big farewell party was last night, just four days before his 79th birthday on December 27, 2022.
In this way, Serrat closed his career in the same city where he was born 58 years ago, in 1965.
The concert left nostalgia aside and was celebrated in a festive mood, as the singer-songwriter from Barcelona asked his followers to bid him a joyful farewell.
Joan Manuel Serrat’s farewell to the stage
“It is always difficult to say goodbye, more so if it is a loved one with whom, for decades, you have shared moments of intense intimacy.” Serrat.
The “El vicio de cantar 1965-2022” tour began on April 27th of this year at the Beacon Theatre in New York. He then went on to Miami, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, Venezuela, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay.
As expected, Serrat sold out all tickets in all countries at great speed. In some places he even had to double the number of dates, reaching the final figure of 74 concerts, 45 of which were in Spain.
During the tour, the city with the most concerts was Buenos Aires, where he gave five very moving recitals. During these presentations he told anecdotes of his long relationship with Argentina. In the same way he did it in several Latin American cities, qualified as his second home.
Serrat back home
Friends and fans gave him an emotional farewell in his own home: Barcelona.
The emblematic Palau Sant Jordi witnessed beautiful songs from his repertoire. Among which he performed the most successful of his career as “Mediterráneo”, “Aquellas pequeñas cosas”, “Lucía”, “Hoy puede ser un gran día”, “Fiesta” or “Para la libertad”.
It was a magical, beautiful night, a historic moment where Serrat said goodbye to his successful musical career.
Going forward, Serrat commented: “I will play and compose at home and maybe I will record an album. But I’m not going back to the stage.”
