The two classical music festivals
Barcelona Obertura Spring Festival
The Barcelona Obertura Spring Festival, now in its fifth edition, will be one of the most anticipated musical events of the year. With the participation of 500 internationally renowned artists and a total of 40 concerts, this festival promises to captivate its audience with masterful performances and varied programs.
The city’s most emblematic venues, including the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau de la Música Catalana and L’Auditori, will witness unforgettable performances by leading figures such as Bob Wilson, Anna Vinnitskaya and Jordi Savall, among others.
Among the most outstanding proposals, the Liceo will present a revised version of Handel’s Messiah, conducted by Robert Wilson, while the Palau de la Música Catalana will offer a series of concerts by renowned ensembles such as the Franz Schubert Filharmonia and the Casals Quartet.
For its part, L’Auditori will surprise us with world premieres by Catalan creators and memorable performances by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC).
2. Ciutat de Clàssica Festival
But classical music is not only limited to large venues and prestigious stages. The Festival Ciutat de Clàssica, which will be held simultaneously, aims to bring this musical genre to all corners of the city, offering 23 free concerts in historical and emblematic places, as well as in museums and other cultural spaces.
With a diverse and accessible program, this festival seeks to enrich the cultural life of Barcelona and promote emerging local talent.
The festival is structured around three artistic strands: the 150th Anniversary of Arnold Schönberg, which pays tribute to one of the most influential composers of the 20th century; ‘Three universes, three women’, an exploration of music created by female composers such as Dora Pejačević, Marie Jaëll and Amy Beach; and Made in Barcelona, which highlights the city’s contribution to the world of classical music.
With the participation of some 200 musicians, including the Athena Quartet and the choirs of the Palau de la Música Catalana, this festival promises to be an unforgettable experience for all music lovers.
From intimate recitals to large symphonic productions, Barcelona is preparing to celebrate the grandeur and beauty of the classical repertoire in all its diversity and splendor.
Enjoy the world of classical music.
