The professional cosmetics sector in Catalonia has become a world reference thanks to its 71 companies that employ 2,198 workers and generate a turnover of close to 500 million euros.
This sector includes perfumes, dermo-cosmetics and professional cosmetics. Catalan companies have been able to stand out in this field.
According to a recent report by the National Association of Perfumery and Cosmetics, Stanpa, the cosmetics industry generates some 15,000 direct jobs and more than 50,000 indirect jobs in Catalonia.
This includes hairdressing salons, commerce, beauty salons, pharmacies, design, communication, among other establishments and businesses.
Cosmetics accounts for 16% of the total consumption of the sector. This means that Catalans spend more than one billion euros a year on perfumery and cosmetics products.
Spain is among the world’s top 10 exporters of beauty products and ranks second in perfumes.
In fact, by 2021, exports from this sector reached 5,384 million euros, ahead of wine, footwear and olive oil.
