The Cines Texas theater plans to reopen its doors in Barcelona as the best independent cinema exhibition space with tickets at only three euros.
This performing arts production venue, which originally opened in 2014, returns after closing in 2020 due to the pandemic health crisis.
If you are a culture lover, you can once again enjoy this stage with its wide range of productions at attractive prices.
Due to the Covid had to close its doors, but not before having generated a wave of neighborhood movements to save the space and prevent its closure. He did not succeed, but his return is imminent with several projects.
This was announced by L’independent de Gràcia, specifying that the former cinemas will be renamed Teatre Espai Texas.
Cines Texas reopens with support from City Hall
The space is located at 205 Bailén Street and the works required to start the reopening are already well advanced.
The rebirth of the project is supported by a grant of 18,000 euros from the City Council, which is intended to cover the payment of the rent.
Although the reopening date has not yet been announced, the project for the recovery of the space is already underway.
In fact, it is led by Isona Passola, president of Ateneu Barcelonès, and Ana Rosa Cisquella, actress and executive producer of Dagoll Dagom.
According to what they said, the idea is to promote unpublished projects in Catalan theater, podcasts, humor, children’s and family theater. They will also seek to maintain the film offerings at the two movie theaters.
The project would occupy two of the movie theaters, under the name of Teatre Espai Texas.
But in addition to being a space to screen local, national and foreign works, it will also be a point of production.
The other two remaining rooms would be available for viewing movies.
Neighbors, authorities and film lovers are very pleased with the news of the reopening, as Cines Texas is a key point in the cultural life in the neighborhood of Gràcia.
It is also planned that from Monday to Thursday those over 65 years old, under 18 and belonging to the association of Gràcia, can have a discount that has not yet been confirmed.
Inconveniences encountered in the past
During 2021, a strong controversy arose between the workers of the hall at that time and the owner of the hall.
Alleged labor irregularities were reported, which led to a lawsuit against the owner-screenwriter Ventura Pons.
The former employees were claiming back pay, violation of labor rights and non-payment of wages.
In the midst of all this past, but with a future ahead, neighbors and lovers of good art await the reopening.
