The European Commission is once again launching one of the best initiatives for young people. This is DiscoverEU, a project offering 60,000 free travel packages to young Europeans between the ages of 18 and 20 between March 2022 and February 2023.
All eligible young people will be able to submit their applications through the European Youth Portal between October 12 and 26, 2022 until noon.
To apply, they will have to answer a questionnaire of six general questions about the European Union and its programs.
European Commission restarts DiscoverEU initiative
The program provides for young people to travel alone or in groups of friends. They will have a maximum of 30 days to travel to many countries.
They will travel by train, a sustainable and highly efficient means of transportation.
The objective is that they will be able to visit at least one of the 27 EU member states other than the country where they reside.
In the last edition of DiscoverEU in 2020 (before the pandemic), 70,000 trips were distributed among some 350,000 nominated candidates across the continent.
They traveled from Sweden to Croatia or from Portugal to Latvia. They passed through Italy, Greece and the Czech Republic, among others.
Traveling for a month in Europe is a dream that young people will be able to make come true.
The 2022 edition of DiscoverEU will offer flexible bookings through a new mobile travel pass.
This system will allow the departure date to be changed at any time before the start of the tour.
The purpose of DiscoverEU
The main objective is to make travel a source of learning for young Europeans.
Thanks to this, they will be able to get to know the continent and better understand Europe’s cultural and geographic diversity and its richness.
They also value the benefits of the EU with respect to freedom of movement and foster a sense of belonging to Europe.
The promoters of the project invite young people who begin their journey to share their experiences on social networks using the hashtag #DiscoverEU.
Another advantage is that they will be allowed to participate in various volunteer activities in the development of the itinerary they choose.
On the other hand, natives of countries belonging to the Erasmus+ program may also apply for youth passes to visit European countries such as Iceland, North Macedonia, Liechtenstein, Serbia, Norway and Turkey.
So if you were born between January 1 and December 31, 2044 and successfully complete the questionnaire, you will be able to travel in Europe for up to 30 days.
Travel dates would be between March 1, 2023 and February 29, 2024, inclusive.
Another advantage is that you could also benefit from a card with more than 40,000 discount possibilities on public transport, accommodation, food, culture, sports and other services in the countries of your choice.
