ElBulli, recognized as the best restaurant in the world, has reopened its doors this summer in a completely new and exciting way: it now opens as a museum.
ElBulli1846 offers visitors a total immersion in the legacy and gastronomic innovation that characterized the famous restaurant.
Located in Cala Montjoi, in Roses, this museum is one of the most outstanding attractions of the summer season.
Twelve years after its last service, ElBulli has undergone an impressive transformation.
With an investment of 11 million euros, rehabilitation and adaptation works have increased the original surface area by 30%, reaching 4,000 square meters.
The main objective of this museum is to preserve the legacy of ElBulli and promote innovation in the culinary field, generating quality content for education and self-learning in the field of catering.
ElBulli1846 now opens as a museum
The restaurant museum will be open from June 15 through September 16, 2023. After these dates it will continue to operate as a research center for the rest of the year.
Tickets for this unique experience cost 27 euros and allow visitors to explore the artistic, conceptual and audiovisual installations that have been created.
In total, there are 69 installations distributed both inside and outside the museum.
Visitors can enjoy an audio guide in several languages, which is included in the entrance fee.
The ElBulli1846 tour focuses on gastronomic innovation and offers an enriching experience.
It begins on the outside, where there are various installations that raise questions related to the kitchen and its methodology.
Inside the museum, visitors can tour the original dining room, which is kept just as it was, with plates and glasses arranged as if it were in full service.
They will also be able to explore the kitchen, where dishes, images of ElBulli’s gastronomic evolution and elements used in the planning and organization of the culinary space are on display.
Narration of the restaurant’s history
Throughout the tour, historical documents are presented, such as the first payrolls of the workers, emblematic letters and photographs that tell the story of the restaurant from its founding in 1961 until its closure in 2011.
Also on display are magazine covers, diagrams and maps used to create the menu, as well as kitchen utensils designed in collaboration with renowned designers.
The itinerary culminates at ElBulliDNA, a multipurpose space that exhibits projects developed by the foundation since 2011.
Here, visitors can watch videos and learn more about the foundation’s initiatives in a cave that recreates the rock of Cap de Creus.
ElBulli1846 is presented as a closing of cycle for the restaurant.
