Exploring “SOS Oceans, la colla Patapum al rescat” at the Barcelona Maritime Museum

Barcelona has always been a cultural melting pot and a beacon for the preservation of maritime history. Now, with the recently inaugurated exhibition “SOS Oceans, la colla Patapum al rescat”, the Museu Marítim de Barcelona takes families on an exciting educational adventure around the conservation of our seas and oceans.

S.O.S. Oceans

An interactive and educational journey for the whole family.

For those who don’t know, the colla Patapum is a group of endearing characters from the children’s butlletí Patapum. This publication has educated and entertained young people since 2018. In its more than thirty issues, it has taught topics related to maritime heritage and culture, appealing to children with its playful and engaging format.

This new exhibit goes beyond printed publications. It places visitors, especially children, at the center of an experiential experience that not only informs, but also invites them to participate in solving tangible problems affecting our oceans.

The magic behind the butlletí Patapum

The butlletí, aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 10, has explored fascinating topics related to pirate life, the world of fishing, nautical sports, and even shipspotters, people who photograph ships. All of these themes serve to connect children to the rich maritime culture of the Mediterranean.

BCN Port Innovation” alliance to improve maritime infrastructure

Through family activities and an inclusive narrative, the museum seeks not only to teach, but also to inspire future generations to care for and preserve their natural environment. The publication has become a bridge between the museum and families, cultivating a community that shares the same values of conservation and respect for nature.

An inclusive and accessible approach

The exhibition is also an opportunity to raise awareness of gender, inclusion and accessibility issues. In fact, the museum is proud to have developed an ongoing community of some 700 children who have followed the adventures of Patapum and his crew. This community has enjoyed content that not only educates, but also fosters respect and understanding of different cultural and social perspectives.

A not-to-be-missed event at the maritime museum

The Museu Marítim de Barcelona, located in Drassanes Reials, has established itself as a cultural reference in the city. This space not only houses exhibitions on maritime culture, but also acts as a meeting point where history and innovation converge. With its educational approach, the museum offers activities for all ages, highlighting its crucial role in connecting the community with Catalan maritime history.

The exhibition “SOS Oceans, la colla Patapum al rescat” is open to the public from July 10, 2025 and can be visited until February 8, 2026. Admission is free, making it easy for everyone to enjoy this educational and recreational experience. The museum is open Monday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., which offers flexibility for families to plan their visit.

An active role in the protection of our oceans

With “SOS Oceans, la colla Patapum al rescat”, the Museu Marítim de Barcelona not only reinforces its commitment to education and entertainment, but also takes an active role in the protection of our oceans. This exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to learn, have fun and, above all, get involved in a vital cause for the future of our planet.

By uniting creativity, learning and action, the museum invites everyone to join in this rescue, exploring and caring for every corner of our oceans in a collective and conscious way. Undoubtedly, those who participate will leave inspired and with a renewed sense of responsibility towards our common home: planet Earth.
