As of September 1, 2022 and back from vacation, public discounts on transport tickets will begin.
This will be a great benefit for the people of Barcelona, as the price of this type of transport will drop by 50% of its usual value.
Public transportation in Barcelona: how it works
The central government’s proposal estimates the reduction at 50% for state transport (including Renfe) and 30% for local and regional transport.
However, both the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat committed to provide the missing funding so that the reduction in Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia would be 50%.
The extra contribution of the municipality will be seven million euros.
Reductions on public transportation tickets
Prices as of September 1:
- In the first crown (Barcelona and the main cities of the Metropolitan Area), the current price of the T-Usual is 40 euros and will remain at 20 euros.
- In the case of the T-Casual, it is 11.35 euros and will remain at 5.70 euros.

The single ticket will be reduced from 2.40 to 1.20.
How to get around Barcelona by public transport
On the other hand, young people will benefit the most from the price reduction.
In fact, those under 25 years of age will now be able to purchase a season ticket for 80 euros, which will allow them to make unlimited trips for 90 days in the first crown. As of September, imports will be reduced to 40 euros.
The measure will be in effect until December 31 and it has not yet been confirmed whether it will be extended for the following year.
