The Grec Festival of Barcelona is once again turning on the lights of the city with a program that promises to be more vibrant than ever. From June 25 to August 4, the city’s stages will be filled with art, music, dance, circus and cinema. With more than 91 shows across 42 venues, the festival has become one of the most important cultural events of the year.
A formidable line-up of artists
This year’s program of the Grec brings international names and local talents that will leave their mark on the stage. Personalities such as Milo Rau, Carolina Bianchi and Cara de Cavalo, and composer Max Richter are just some of the big names joining this cultural festival. At their side, figures such as William Kentridge and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui promise to offer unique experiences for all attendees.
But the Grec is not limited to established giants. It also includes performances by promising young artists, offering a perfect blend of the new and the traditional. These new talents are the heart of the festival, bringing freshness and innovation to the program.
The inaugural work that surprises and delights
To kick off this special edition, Grec has chosen “Le Petit Cirque”, a show that combines music, dance and circus. This work is a celebration of nature that invites spectators to relive the magic of being children, offering a moving and vibrant experience for the whole family.
Directed by the talented Leticia Martín Ruiz, who becomes the first woman to lead the festival in three decades, the inaugural show marks the beginning of a new era in the history of the Grec. With this direction, the festival seeks to involve the entire city of Barcelona in its festivities.
New scenarios and old acquaintances
This year, the festival has expanded beyond its usual boundaries to include new, unconventional venues. One such venue is the Santuario de la Virgen del Carmen, where John Tavener’s choral work “The Veil of the Temple” will be presented. With the Orfeó Català under the direction of Simon Halsey, the performance promises to be a fascinating component of the festival.
Another unique space is the Casa Studio of Leopoldo Pomés, host of a special concert organized by the Bachcelona festival. In this intimate setting, the Breaking Bach formation will offer a unique show on July 24. Such unusual locations promise to break traditional norms and expand the festival to as yet unexplored areas of the city.
A journey through Montjuïc
As the epicenter of the festival, the Teatre Grec de Montjuïc will be the place where the magic will come to life night after night. Here, attendees can expect a diverse range of performances, from a concert by the incredible Clara Peya to a celebration of the 55th anniversary of Pau Riba’s “Dioptria” album.
The theater will also host outstanding performances such as those of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and a night dedicated to William Shakespeare with the representation of “The 2 noblemen of Verona”. These events not only light up the stage, but also demonstrate the artistic diversity that the Grec has to offer.
An outdoor concert like you’ve never seen before
The impressive open-air show at the Arc de Triomphe, entitled “Interferència 02”, will turn the city itself into a giant score. Attendees will enjoy a unique sound experience thanks to the talent of *Marc Salicrú*. This free event is designed to attract anyone who wishes to be part of this urban symphony.
Don’t wait to be part of the Grec
With more than 160,000 tickets on sale, and 8,000 of them already sold in advance, the Grec is an unavoidable date for culture lovers. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this incredible experience that goes beyond Montjuïc. Tickets are now available on the festival’s official website.
In short, Grec Festival 2025 offers a direct passport to a world of creativity and inspiration. With a rich mix of the traditional and the contemporary, the festival is a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the vibrant artistic energy of Barcelona.
